Have a 1972 Chevy big block 454 when I purchase the vehicle it had a hydroboost system to help power the brakes from the power steering. Is it normal to have loss of power steering at low idle. ie pulling in the parking spots etc. is this normal or is my power steering pump failing.

You would have to check the pressure being generated by the hydroboost.

How do I check that pressure and how do I know what pressure is adequate. The car is set idle at 500 to 600 RPMs That's where I'm having the issue in the power steering at that low RPM

You would need to rent a gauge and find out what the hydroboost is from.
You have that radical a cam that you need a hydroboost?

Actually I should have said the pressure specs would relate to the pump you are using not the hydroboost.

Yeah I don't know what the pressure specs are for the power steering pump. It does have three ports which I do believe are used for hydroboost systems.
