I lost the key for my 2007 Avalanche, and had a local dealer pull the code and cut a new one. Apparantly mid 2007, they went to programable keys, so there is a process for the vehicle to learn the new key.

The instructions that they gave me, which are here http://programautokeys.com/classified/DisplayAd.asp?id=243 state that if your vehicle vin starts with a 3 or 4, this processes will not work, and mine starts with a 3. It was manufactured in Mexico, and the above link only works on US vehicles.

Anyone know where I can find instructions for the programing procedure? I have tried the one from the link I posted, and it doesn't work.

Thanks,

Wasnt the dealer who cut the key aware that the car was made in Mexico? Does your security light come on when you try to start the car with this new key?

Yes, the security light does come on. They didn't mention any difference in manufacturer location, and I didn't look to closely at the instructions when I was there, as it seemed pretty straightforward. I guess I will give them a call tomorrow and see what they say about it.

If they won't help you, you may find it on youtube. There's a wealth of knowledge there to be had for free!

Thanks for the replies.... I called around to a couple dealerships and independent shops today, and the consensus seems to be that it will have to go to the dealership, and get hooked up their computer.
It's odd that one set of vin #'s you can program yourself, and others you can't on the exact same vehicles, but guess that's the way it is...
