how do you take off a starter on a 1990 chevy silverado?

if it helps its a z71 and it has a 350 motor
 
Not that difficult of a job but buy a Haynes or a Chilton's manual on your truck it will help you with any automotive questions you could have on the vehicle.

Starter is located on bottom passengers side of engine at transmission . Remove battery cables. Disconnect wires from starter (1 9/16 or 14 mm wrench and 1 5/16 or 8 mm wrench) Remove the three bolts holding starter in place. Two on bottom rear and one on top front (screws into side of engine) all 9/16 aka 14mm There may be (but not always is) a heat shield covering the starter that must be removed first to get to the wires and the top front mounting bolt. Installation is reversed.
