If it's an automatic trans., start the engine, set the brake and put it in neutral. check using the transmission dip stick. Shut it off to add, then restart to check again. Drive around to warm it up before you check it cause fluid expands when it heats up. If it's a manual trans, take out the fill bolt under your car on the side of your transmission. Just like a rear end, it should be full the the bottom of the fill hole.
