How do I put a 454 in a 1969 Chevy Nova and get the tie rods to clear the oil pan?

I have a 1969 Chevy Nova with a 454 from a 77 Suburban. The car is not currently running, but I am slowly getting there. However, when turning the steering wheel, the tie rods bump against the oil pan and wheels only can turn a small amount. Has anybody delt with this before and how? It does not have power steering. The car was originally a V6. Will changing the front springs (something I am going to do anyway) help?

convert the steering to a rack and pinion unit instead of the old steering box

sounds like a chore to me. i would suggest trying to find/or have made, modified oil pan. if you have leaf springs, you can get lift springs to raise it. have fun, good luck

a simple oil pan swap will work or if you are a fabricator you couold build a custom motor mount to raise the engine a friend of mine had a 70 nova and 502 with oversized 8 quart oil pan instead of ditching the pan i made hime a set of mounts its really not that hard with plasma cutter and tig
