My 2000 Chevy Malibu has treated me very well but there is a problem I need to tend to:
It started off with my heater and AC working fine. Then it wouldn't turn on until I turned it to level 2 (of 5). About 5 years pass and now it won't turn on until I turn it to level 4 (of 5). Typically I'd learn to live with it except that when it finally does turn on it has this smell of pollution and there's a settlement of black dust on the dashboard. Initially it was just a little bit of dust, but the amount of settlement left behind per use is increasing.
I have regular oil changes, and I think the air filters are checked during those routine check-ups (though I'm not completely sure on that) so I'm not sure why the dust is settling. What do you think is going on?
