Hi. I have owned a few Corvettes, up to a 1999 model, i can tell you some of my experiences. If your gonna buy new you can afford the depreciation hit in the wallet as soon as you drive it off the lot. These are fun cars to drive, they handle good in dry weather, and since they are so light weight they accelorate quickly and have a rumble in the motor to add to the rush. If cruising, touring, and looking good doing it is your thing a Corvette is the car for you. Always a buyer for a medium priced or a low priced one. Certain models are worth more (ZO6) and a few other collector quality or special editions. Problems i have had, getting in and out sucks. I am a big guy and its tough on my legs. The left seat bolster tends to show wear because i am not the only person with this problem. Mechanically pretty good, at least the later models but the price of parts is close to rediculous if you need one. Even the tires are expensive. A full brake job on a late model Chevy Impala LTZ may cost $300. The same on your Corvette is $425 or more. Tune-ups are a hassle, the plugs are located low in the motor, way down in there. Even the battery is hard to change or get to if you need a jump start. Electronics? Forget about it. The display window that shows your interior climate control temp and functions will go out first. Electric windows and other gadgets dont hold up well either. Comfort is adequate for short trips but not really the kind of car you want to drive across country in unless your short and thin. And again, its not a good car to have if you need to get in and out of often. Safety? Fair. Good brakes and decent crash protection in front end collision but get hit on the driver door and your gonna know it, even if you get hit by a Yugo. Get hit by anything larger and it might kill you. Body is composite fiberglass. Lightweight and looks good but is also brittle and seams split after a few years or it gets cracked instead of dented. Imagine getting hit by someone driving a big SUV like a Tahoe or an Escalade while their talking on the phone and not paying attention. Or, an 18 wheeler. All in all it's a super fun car to drive and if you can afford to buy it than you can probably afford to fix it too. Give me a classic muscle car any day. At least the parts are cheap and i can fix it too. Good Luck!!
