Hello everyone!

I've been trying to find a decent camaro for around 2500. There's not alot of there (in Canada at least). I found a very nice priced 'local' add. A 1987 camaro Iroc-Z with 88,xxx miles. Anyways, I sent him an email asking about the car, and I get this (what seems like an automated response). I've cut the letter down to the main part.

So if you decide on buying the car, I want the deal closed only through eBay's Express
Purchase Protection program. You will make the payment to eBay and they will hold the money until you receive the car. ONLY AFTER you receive the car and you inspect it, eBay will
release the payment to me, in this way we are both protected.
The car is located in USA right now and has US papers. The title is clean and you will have absolutely no problems to register the car in Canada or USA.
I signed up for US military forces and I was sent here with my department in Iraq.
I am located in Iraq, but the car is in United States in Wisconsin in a warehouse, sealed and ready to be shipped.
My final price on it is US $2,100 CAD. If you will take it for this price, I am willing to handle the shipping .It will be shipped from Wisconsin by plane with US Air Military Cargo so it will not cost me anything. You will get it to the nearest airport in your area and then it will be trucked forward to your place.
First of all, the vehicle will be insured during transit so no damage can occur. Don't worry about that.
Secondly, you will receive all appropriate documents along with the vehicle. You will receive all the papers signed by me so you can easily transfer the car into your name. Please get back to me asap if you decide to buy, and include in your e-mail your full name and address (street, city, zip, state) where you want it shipped so I can start the deal with eBay. You will receive all
the transaction payment and shipping details from them.
I am sorry but we don't have access with phones here.ONLY laptops. But we can communicate by mail.I hope this is not a problem.
Thanks for understanding

Something about this doesn't seem right to me. After my mom read that, she was already thinking about sealing the deal but I told her to hold off. The way he describes it, it seems like nothing can go wrong. So I was wondering if this seems legit? Does ebay actually hold onto the payment? And how will I know the car will be sent to my house/ be able to take a look at it before the transaction is complete? I just dont want to end up with a crappy car/ no car at all.

I've already contacted ebay about this *yet to receive a reply*, but was hoping for some different opinions.

Thanks alot if you've read this far!

Military Air Cargo doesn't ship vehicles.

It's a scam based on that alone.

Plus, when I was in Iraq, we had access to phones. No you couldn't call us. But we could call you.

So he DOES have phones, if he is indeed in Iraq.

By the way, I'm guessing you don't know much about eBay.

Ebay is for listing items. They have NOTHING to do with the transaction of money. They don't hold money. They don't confirm money. They don't verify money. They do not care at all, if you buy something, and it's a scam, because all they do, is provide the space for listing.

rule of thumb:
anyone who offers to ship the vehicle is a scam.
this is a scam for obvious reasons. if you do decide to buy a car off ebay, i highly suggest to inspect it FIRST. but above all establish a relationship with the seller. contact them, ask them to speak via phone and discuss your concerns.
i almost bought a car off ebay but i never did cause it just seems too sketchy and i knew a person that got really ripped off.
also what he says about you not having problems registering it. having an out of country/out of province car registered in canada is a HUGE hassle. it needs to pass all safety/aircare inspections in most provinces.
and 1987 camaro is probably not easily going to pass aircare.
if your in canada i find my perfect car after looking for about 3 months everyday on craiglist.com, but i also checked kiiji.com, the buy sell and trade and autotrader.com.
