Gas For a 1983 Chevy Camaro 305 Crossfire Fuel injection 5.0L V8?

I have a Camaro. And I run it on Reguar Gasoline from Sunoco (I hear they have the best) I was just wondering if the car could be run on super? Or even 93 Octane?? It's all stock but I just get a feeling that Super isn't enough Octane for the car. It does ping a little at a cold start-up but I think that it is just because it is cold. But will it hurt to run on super. I want the best quality gasoline, Even if it doesn't call for super. But I want to make sure it won' hurt my Engine.

And am I right when I say that Sunoco is the best? That is just what I heard from a bunch of people and they are Nascars sponsor and everything. Is it the best gas or no?

1. No such thing as best gas 99% of people out there, will never notice the difference between best and worst gas.
Sure, Sunoco sponsors Nascar. But you're not putting Nascar fuel in your car. Totally irrelevant. Your bunch of people are probably just repeating what they've heard, and thought that if it's Nascar related, it must be good.....

2. For the 305 Crossfire, Super should be plenty. If it's knocking or pinging, check the electrical. Crossfire engines have a huge reputation for having fuel problems. I used to own one. I'll never look back, lol.

You don't need premium if the owners manual does not call for it. It won't hurt,though. Just costs more. It's not pinging on start up. That is probably valvetrain noise from old age and wear. The lifters bleed down and cause extra rocker arm clearance, causing a ticking sound. When the oil pressure builds up, the noise goes away, right?

If the engine pings after warmed up and under a load, like going up hill, that is a sign that you may need premium. Or the ignition timing needs adjusted.

As for the best quality fuel, that is subjective. I feel Mobil premium is the best quality, and that is what I use in my '74 Nova with a high compression 350. Never pings and runs great with Mobil premium, with 11:1 compression ratio.
