For a 1997 Chevy suburban, how much would a new motor cost?

why don't you check the web yourself. you can go on car-part.com and look for a used one or go on rock auto.com and look for a newer one, rebuilt or new.I guess the question I would ask you is how much can you spend. Can you spend the 2-3k for the motor and 1k to put it in. What's wrong with the one you've got that you can't repair it?
A new motor? 3000-4000. Then the cost of labor.

I had a engine blow in a 98 Jeep-probably similar sized engine. A engine for it was around 3000 plus labor so i guess yours would be close to the same.
Just sell it as is and put the money you were gonna put into the suburban into a different vehicle. Even replacing that engine, you never know what could go bad next. Maybe the transmission-who knows.
