An 02 z71 suburban with the check engine lite on for the last 40k miles...the reason is that the darn flex fuel sensor is 600 bucks! I never burn anything other than what's available on east coast...10 percent ethanol blend....other than the lite truck runs fine...anyone have experience with this sensor? Other than giving GM 600 bucks, any solution?

Hmmm. Sure don't...I can call the dealer Wednesday and get it. Thanks.

Just wondering - because I can't find a mention of a flex fuel sensor on any of my parts websites. I'm not saying it's not there I've just never run in to it.

I'll keep looking as well.

What is the code that's being generated that turns on the CEL?

You might want to swing by an Autozone type parts store and have them read any codes that are set - that may help us determine what the problem is.

Okay - here's the P/N for the Flex Fuel Sensor - 12570260 -

Here's a diagram that I believe matches your burb - can't tell for sure without the VIN # but all of different diagrams show the same part number - the part is #5 in the diagram -

http://parts.nalleygmc.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_product=2667093&ukey_assembly=372560&ukey_make=0&ukey_model=0&ukey_driveline=0&ukey_trimlevel=0&modelYear=0

Here's the part on Amazon - they show a price of $212 - http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-12570260-Flex-Fuel-Sensor/dp/B005OVDIN6

And on Ebay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/131099362114?lpid=82

It doesn't look like it would take much to install the part - as long as you could get that side of the burb in the air a bit then it looks like it's just got a couple of bolts that hold it in.

Spriteman, you are awesome! I will check it out and get back to you! Most definitely owe you a frosted malt beverage on this one!

yep, the code is PO 178 " Flex Fuel Sensor Circuit Low Input"

Thanks again, Spriteman. Now, please, please take on the challenge of my suspected windshield leak and ABS & Park Brake light issues! I dare you!

You're most welcome...

Before you pull the trigger on the Flex Fuel Sensor you might want to get up under your burb and check to make sure that electrical connector is clean and not loose and there are not any cut or torn wires - that could cause the P0178 code as well.

Flex Fuel Sensor from Amazon: 200 bucks
an afternoon of laying on my back in the drive way: a little sweat
a cleared "check engine" light: Priceless

Thanks Spriteman. Just in time for her to roll over to 200K miles.
