An 02 z71 suburban with the check engine lite on for the last 40k miles...the reason is that the darn flex fuel sensor is 600 bucks! I never burn anything other than what's available on east coast...10 percent ethanol blend....other than the lite truck runs fine...anyone have experience with this sensor? Other than giving GM 600 bucks, any solution?

Just wondering - because I can't find a mention of a flex fuel sensor on any of my parts websites. I'm not saying it's not there I've just never run in to it.

What is the code that's being generated that turns on the CEL?
You might want to swing by an Autozone type parts store and have them read any codes that are set - that may help us determine what the problem is.

Okay - here's the P/N for the Flex Fuel Sensor - 12570260 -
Here's a diagram that I believe matches your burb - can't tell for sure without the VIN # but all of different diagrams show the same part number - the part is #5 in the diagram -

Before you pull the trigger on the Flex Fuel Sensor you might want to get up under your burb and check to make sure that electrical connector is clean and not loose and there are not any cut or torn wires - that could cause the P0178 code as well.
