first nova 1978 have questions

The radio had a wire to illuminate the dial. It is part of the dash light circuit. Check the tail light fuse for power on both sides and also the small instrument lamp fuse in the bottom of the fuse panel. If one or both are bad let me know.

OK I think k the issue is at the fuse box I didn't have a issue with the tail lights till I swapped the interior fuse

You said the contacts were rusty on the fuse you changed. Might be good to clean all the contacts and check the fuses. By any chance do you live in AZ? If so this would be easier to solve if I could do some troubleshooting on the car.

heres what im dealing with :(

Hard to tell in the photo but it does not seem correct for those two green wires to be connected to each other. I am wondering if the previous owner was trying to use the back up light as a second stop/turn. I make reproduction tail light lens for the 75 - 79 Nova and have had requests for some with a red lens in the back light position.

Your flasher appears to be an electronic unit, usually needed with low resistance circuits like LED lighting.

it will work fine, the stock one was a mechanical flasher that works on load. As the circuit in the flasher heated up from resistance of the light bulbs the contacts would open and then close when cooled. This cycle happened very fast and caused the clicking noise it made. The flasher you have is more like a timer that opens and closes the circuit electronically.

Ok I swapped the fuse on the tail lights they work it was a bad fuse now I'm bad to the blinker situation .when I turn the blinker ton the passenger (right) functions as nor to the left both front and rear blinkers blink my lic plate light and side markers in the rear....

I'm thinking the wire in the trunk is correct I pulled the harness all looks stock. So I came to the conclusion that I believe the signal switch on the column could be bad now how hard is tht to remove

Are you saying the license plate light and rear side markers also blink? They should not and that probably will be a ground issue, especially if it only does it with the lights either on or off but not both ways.

The turn signal switch is not hard to change but will require some special tools to remove the wheel and lock plate so you can get to it. If it comes to that I have step by step photos of removing the the lock plate and can guide you through changing the switch if you need one. However if the front and rear both flash properly and the stop lights work properly the switch is okay. BTW the front side markers flash when the turn signals are on. With the lights off the side markers will flash in time to the front turn signal. With the lights on it goes off in time with the front turn signal. This is normal has to do with the way the circuits are wired.

It could be a grounding issue . They only blink when I switch to the left (drivers) side. Other than that they function as normal. The switch when I saw it wasnt on the steering column like it should

The switch when I saw it wasn't on the steering column like it should

What do you mean by this

Check the grounds on all the left side bulb sockets including the side marker.

M saying when i turn the blinker to go left the left right blinkers front and rear including the lic plate light blinks

Oh, that does sound like a switch problem except for the license plate lamp. It can still be a ground bad somewhere. To check the turn signals another switch can be plugged into the connector under the dash on the steering column. I have some used switches, if we do the radio deal I can send one along for you to use as a test unit.

here is the location of the connector on the steering column.

Mine is there too bit the harness wasn't connected to the column like it shouldnbso I figured it was broke and need to be swapped. I'm check the manual for wiring codes to find the grounds

Did you check all the bulb sockets for missing ground tabs like in the photo I posted?
