EVAP Canister question

On my 2000 chevy silverado the EVAP canister located in front of the fuel tank has a fuel line labeled "Purge" and one labeled "Tank." When i removed the "Tank" line the fuel that dripped out was a brown or charcoal color. Is this normal? I understand that there is a charcoal canister but i'm not sure if this means it is clogged or something. I'm already replacing my fuel pump so if this is also a bad sign i dont want to ruin the new pump...again..

This is related to the P0440 code you mentioned in the other post. This wont cause a pump to fail. Look at the suggested repairs for the code.

So with the symptom i mentioned with the fuel being a brownish color, is that normal or should i replace the EVAP canister. Or is there a way to clean it if its plugged up?

There shouldnt be fuel in the canister only gas vapors. You can try replacing or cleaning components, ports can get clogged, or go to a shop that has the correct equipment to run a diagnostic check of the evap system which as you see on the code listing has a number of parts.
