Trying to help someone with a 2003 suburban i believe. They say that it starts fine but if they drive it and shut it off the thing won't start. And none of the guages will work. They have to wait about an hour and it will start. They believe it to be a cluster but I don't think so. I'm not a mechanic but I dont think so. Any thoughts would be appreciated. TIA.

I'm sorry I had issues with getting on. You know the old timers stuff. Thanks for your reply to my question. I'm getting the information second hand. It starts fine then after it runs for a while. He said it wont start but if it sits for a while it will start. He said if he unlocks it with the key that makes it not start but if they leave it unlocked it will start without issues hope that makes sense. I do not think that they have a key fob. I'm wondering if thats part of the issue. Thanks again.

You still haven't answered the question as to exactly what does not start mean.
Does it crank but the engine doesnt ignite or it doesnt crank?
Is the security light on when it wont start?
Did they recently purchase this vehicle?

No it won't crank at all. They say its totally dead and wont turn over. No clicks nothing. Its my daughters car so I'm calling and asking questions. Someone told them it was the cluster but I visited someone who repairs those and he disagreed. When they said that they don't have a problem if they leave the doors unlocked I wondered about the security thing. I know nothing about chevrolet past 86. I did drive one once. I think I locked the doors with the fob thing then when I came back I used the key and the alarm went off. I finally got in and the alarm went off and it started. I appreciate you reaching out to help. I asked them your questions last night and if I can hang on to you I will keep asking them questions. They keep buying cars that have been passed around. They just got this from a family friend who said it has a new engine and everything is supposed to be in good condition except for the electrical. I have wondered too if a mouse got to it. Not sure how this is going to be fixed over the internet if you have nothing showing on cluster to indicate whether it is a security system issue. You cannt even do a key relearn procedure without a working cluster.
Oh ok I appreciate the information and the help. I guess we will have to find an electrical specialist. I have often wondered how people will have used cars in the near future. There is so much electronic stuff in today's cars. My big truck spent a month in the shop because no one could solve the wiring problem. Thanks again.
