I bought a car and I'm having a problem with finding the right starter. All of the starters have the armature shaft to far away from the flex plate teeth. Im not sure what size my block is. I know its a gm v8 and I went to the casting numbers on the bell housing flange and I went online to find out what it. But all of the block online have two extra digits so I'm not sure what size it is. The casting number is either 97800, 97600, or 97000. I can't tell because the stamp is messed up. it looks most like 97800. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I didn't say anything about valve cover. Front of engine in front of passenger cylinder head.

Actually I do see the number there now. There are two separate sets numbers. The one on the left hand side says 36Z126647 and the other number to the right of it says VO319TYY.

TYY is a 1975, 350, LS9, conv. Cab, C-10 to 2500 truck.

thank you for helping me out, is there any way I can know its a 2 piece or 1 piece rear main? And I actually wiped the casting number on the bell housing flange a little better and its a 978010. and I've been looking a little more see that this number matches other 350s but the others have a 3 in front.

You have a 1975 block cast March 19th, 1975.
Chevrolet did not start one piece rear main seal till about 1986.
