I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu and out of nowhere it won't start. Not sure if it's the starter or my battery. \r\n
When I went to move car after it sat for not quite 24 hours parked on street in front of my apartment, it was making a very weak noise as it attempted to turn over. The radio came on, lights, and interior light. The more I attempted to turn the car on, the more the weak sound of it trying to turn over turned into absolute silence (just a click when I try to start now).
A few hours later I tried it again. Still just getting a click. Radio will not come on any longer, though headlights still will. Interior light will come on still but is extremely dim now. At that point, a friend who had come over to look at it told me it must be my battery.
I'd like to know as much as I can without having to take it in. At the same time...silly to go spend money on a new battery (as I'm really low on any funds and don't have money for this) to just get back with it and find out that wasn't hte issue.
Can anyone advise as to what to look at to further determine what the problem is?
Check Engine light comes on a lot in this car, but usually that's because the gas cap isn't screwed on securely and it goes away but tends to come back everytime I get gas. Car did stall probably within the last 2 or 3 weeks while idling at a stop light. No issue since then though. Battery light did not come on at any point. Was driving fine the afternoon before this issue.
I should have also mentioned:
I checked my interior light immediately when I realized it wouldn't start and I hadn't left it on (I pushed it to 'on' in checking it and it turned on actually, which is what had me wondering if it was, in fact, a battery issue).
A friend also came over to give me a jump start but it didn't do anything. I tried about 4 times after we let it sit and charge for....5 minutes? Longer?
