I recently did a oil change and everything was good when I started my Cavalier and it was making a loud "clanking" sound from the valve cover where the cams are. I had a free estimated mechanic come and look and he said it jumped time. So I took it all apart and re timed it correctly and now I started it and nothing won't turnover at all. I am believing to think the valves have bent? So from here what would I need to do the fix this can i use another head off a cavalier and just have the head machined? Or is it the valves at all? PLEASE HELP its a 2005 Chevy Cavalier 4Dr LS Sedan with a 2.2 ECOTECH 190K on the motor.

You took it all a part and replaced what components? Have you done a compression test?

no compression test which i should do. I removed valve cover and the lower pulley to remove that plate to see the full chain.

again, what parts did you replace with new ones? If none you didnt fix anything. You have to replace chain, tensioner, and damper. But first do a compression test to check for bent valves.

Okay sorry for the miss communication. No I didn't replace any parts but i'll do a compression test here in the hour. If compression is good then I would need to replace chain, tensioner, and damper. and re time in order for car to be running again?

the chain didnt jump off for no reason, it had to occur because something else failed usually the tensioner, so you would replace all the associated components.

Okay thanks is there a diagram for timing on this generation of Cavaliers.
