Has anyone added a backup camera kit to thier 'burb? I mainly want one to make it easier to back up to my boat hitch, but I could see one as pretty handy for general backing up. We have a pretty large blind spot behind these beasts.
I've been considering buying a smaller unit that might fit where the original radio went. I have a pocket there now that came with my radio relocating kit. My single DIN HD radio is mounted where the tape deck was. Is there a quality advantage of a wired vs wireless camera? Wireless are much easier to install. I don't think I want a license plate mounted camera. I think it would limit the angle I want for viewing my hitch.
Any opinions? Surprises? Dissappointments?

I have no first hand experience but I did a google search for "review of backup cameras" and got a number of hits that may help you.

Thanks. I've Googled plenty which makes the options more difficult. I've been reading reviews, but they don't usually cover applications, just overall performance.
Another option is a rear view mirror clip-on or full mirror replacement. Some say they are distracting.

I would stay away from the wireless ones if you have any Bluetooth tech on your audio/phone system. It will look great until you turn everything on and then you will get horizontal lines in the view screen. The signals interfere with each other. Iballhitch makes a good product but I dont leave it on all the time. Simple and easy install. Lots of other wired products with the camera on your license plate frame

Another pricey option is to look at camping world's selection. I will eventually put one of those on with a 7" screen with infrared capability etc. But your looking at about 500 and up there.

what year suburban are you looking to add it too.. i did a double din set up in my 04 silverado for the same reason.. im my 07 suburban i had to replace the onstar module that would allow me to put a video feed to the factory gps set up.. they make aftermarket cameras that send the image to a small screen in the rear view mirror.. and i also know that edge has a monitor that has a back up camera prevision..

My 'burb is a '93 with a single DIN where the tape deck used to go. I've looked at flip out single DIN units, mirror units, and smaller ones that might fit the deadspace where the radio used to be.
