at what mileage do chevy silverado 1500s break down?

im looking at buying a high mileage truck and am wondering what is too high to bother with.

That's a bit of a loaded question. I would expect the engine - with regular maintenance would be good for 200K easy. That goes for the rest of the truck as well. If you're buying an older truck, get the service records pulled from a local Chevy dealer, that will tell you how well its been maintained and what work has been done it. I had 125K on my last truck and it looked brand new and ran like new when I sold it.
