The 03 silverado I just bought is a barebones no bells or whistles standard model. I want to add crusie control. I already have the correct multifunction switch ordered, my question is, is this a plug n play install or will I have to take it somewhere to have it activated after install. Dealership told me they don't service that item (even if it came on the truck) after the factory warranty runs out. And thats all they would tell me, I asked if the wiring harness was already there and he wouldn't answer that.

You would have to do lots of research at the parts counter to see if the column wire harness is listed as being different. In addition the system is a lot more complex than slapping on the switch. It involves the brake system, you step on the pedal and it' supposed to disengage, the dash, there is a cruise engaged indication and cruise disengaged, etc. I dont think you can readily retro-fit a factory system. Below is the 2004 manual showing the indicator and other functions of cruise control. Your best bet is an aftermarket system.

The dealership recommended a shop that is certified AC/Delco shop that can do it. So I'll let them handle it. Thanks

Re: Adding Crusie Control? (UPDATE)

An FYI for all who own an 03 - 06 Silverado. Adding cruise control IS a Plug-N-Play upgrade. All 03 -06 Gas engine silverado's have the same wiring harness and have an ETC/ECM (electronic throttle control) no cables and are factory programmed with cruise control. If you have or buy one that doesn't have cruise control, you can find the correct switch in most parts stores for around $140 - $160. I found a new in the box switch w/cruise on ebay for $50. The plug for the cruise wire is already on the column, it took about 30-45 mins to change out the multifunction switch and I now have factory cruise control no cutting or soldering wires. The factory indicator light in the dash will also start working once the switch is installed and engaged. As for the braking system on these trucks its all done through the speed sensor and the ETC/ECM, after installing I test drove (on a back road to be safe) just tap the brake pedal and it turns off the cruise like it suppose to. It all functions just like it came that way from the factory (because it did) except for the switch. Happy Trucking !!!

if you can't find it you may not have it. usually on the turn signal it should say something like on ,set resume accelerate and off. if you find it drive the car on the hwy, turn it on and when you get to speed you want push it to set and hold a few seconds and you should feel it take over. to turn it off step or tap on the brake pedal or just turn it off
