My '99 Malibu had no A/C in the summer and now has no heat in the winter. I've topped off the antifreeze (it doesn't frequently get low but I can't see any obvious leaks), checked all the fuses. The engine temp does get warm as it should (so the thermostat isn't getting stuck open).
I'm more concerned with the heat but I mention the A/C just in case it's a related problem. The A/C compressor doesn't kick in so I assumed that it needed a compressor (I was a mechanic for a couple years out of high school and remember diagnosing A/C compressors and checking if the unit had resistance when spinning but this was back in the R12 days).
What else can I check to diagnose the heat not working? I really can't afford to bring it to a mechanic right before Christmas, but I do have to drive the kids around and it's getting too cold!
Thanks for your help.
