99 chevy malibu 3100 v6?

the camshaft is broke on cylinders 5 6???? and I see that this is some what of a common problem. What causes this to brake?? also it has bent some of the pushrods??? Is it a good idea to buy a engine or to replace the cam bearings? will I have the same problem w/a junk yard motor some day??

Because of the location of the cam, in the top of the block, have to replace the whole engine. Only other option is to buy a short block and replace the pushrods and hydraulic lifters. But buying another engine is cheaper from a junk yard.
