97 chevy malibu acting up?

I drive a 97 Chevy Malibu. It is close to hitting 114,000miles. Just the other day, it randomly started acting up. It felt as though someone was behind me bumping into my back end and pushing my car forward. Any ideas what could be causing this?
Im just praying that it is not my transmission!
it was occuring at normal neighborhood speed around 25-30mph

If this is at highway speeds under acceleration change the plug wires if it is not tell me when it does this.

it sounds like it,s idling too fast. ok try this. take the idle air control sensor off, clean it and put it back on and have the throttle position sensor checked too, it might need adjusted.
