Got a issue bolting bell housing to engine, still got 1/8 inch gap and can’t figure out why , is there supposed to be a plate in between? Any info would be helpful

You are bolting only the bell housing, no transmission attached?
You sure you have no interference caused by dowls on the housing or block?
You checked the input shaft diameter versus the pilot bushing?

No transmission is attached dowel pins are perfect aligned no instruction and I had put pilot bushing over the input shaft before installing it in end of crankshaft, but somthing has got to be offi even went back with bottoming tap and checked all the the bolt holes in block and made sure no wires or hoses got in between, then checked all the threads on all belhousing bolts and screwed em into a die, it’s almost like input shaft is too long , to which I havnt checked the depth of end of crankshaft which is where I’m headed next wasn’t trying to go there if I don’t have to but at this point I see no other option
