89 chevy silverado transmission?

I was going down the road at about 50mph when suddenly the truck acted like it slipped into 1st gear, along with that, a metallic scraping noise was coming from under the truck and the rpm were sky high around 3500, the transmission is an automatic TH700R4 running with a 350 tbi, i pulled over and left it set for a second and tried again but it still did the same, finally i got results out of a little tantrum of putting my foot all the way to the floor on the gas pedal and finally it shifted, when i got home reverse was absolutely gone and ive checked the shift and throttle valve cable and it still acts weird and makes a lot of noise...
also, i think it clear that we all know that i prolly need a new transmission so spare the "u need a knew transmission" shit for an answer, seriously, its pretty clear, i just wanna know if it could be anything else
but is that fixable?? i mean by me? i have absolutely NO money to my name, got n a bad wreck a few months ago and tht took all mi money to get bak on mi feet

drop the pan and see if there is big pieces of metal in there. i,am thinking it might be a broken band.
