79 nova inline 6 automatic

Looking to put bigger motor in it what would be the best motor tranny combo preferrably no major modifications and also im not looking for a dragster im looking for something i can use to just cruise with decent gas mileage it just the 230 l6 just isnt cutting it for my taste also could i use the 2 speed trans that already in it with a bigger motor id like to use the same trans

I'm not really that knowledgeable about GM products, but it seems like the most popular transplants for older Chevy cars has been the 350 with either a 350 turbo transmission or the 700R4? like out of an Astro or S10. I'm sure you'll get better suggestions. The Powerglide was a great transmission, but since it's only a two speed, you'll get better performance and mileage out of one of the other transmissions I've mentioned.

I agree go with a 350. I cannt imagine that in 79 you would have a 2 speed transmission it has to be a 3 speed.

Crap! My bad. I was reading 79 and thinking 1969. I stand corrected and will state that any small block from a 283 to a 350 should bolt up to the 350 turbo. If you could find a 327 with the proper double hump heads, that was one hot engine. Of course, you'll pay dearly for one of those too!

Thanks i actually found a 327 i may buy it and rebuild it from what research it sounds like what im lookin for

The 327 was an awesome engine. You can do all kinds of neat stuff with it and have a sweet hot rod.
