'72/'74 Bullet mirrors

Every where I look to buy bullet mirrors they show all 3rd gens as being compatible. OK, I found a set off of a '72 for my '74 , no go , holes don't line up anywhere close. Am I missing something ?
 
1. Do you currently have factory bullet mirrors or chrome mirrors?
2. Are you using the mounting brackets for the bullet mirrors?
 
My first 74 Nova SS was brand new when I bought it in May 1974. It had bullet mirrors that were the same color as the car, dark green. I remember the colored mirrors were standard on the 74 SS model. I currently have a dark green 74 Nova that was a 6 cylinder base model. It only had one mirror on the driver side door. No mirror on the passenger door. Very strange driving a car with no rear view mirror on the passenger door. I bought a matching mirror and put it on. Now I have stripped all the paint off the car and I am having body work done and a new paint job. I too would like to find a set of bullet mirrors. Havent done much looking yet, but about to start.
