I purchased a HID conversion kit. It's the second set. The first one lasted 3 months before just turning off and never coming back on. So I ordered a new kit from a different vendor. I installed it today and it lasted for 2 hours. After it going out I reinstalled the factory bulbs and they light up. A few hours later I went to leave and the lights won't come on. I turned the light controller to the different positions and nothing. After the second set went out I had to drive home with only the lower lights on. While at a stop light the tail lights both blew out at the same time. I'm just trying to figure out why. I'm posting this in hopes that this is a issue someone else has experienced.

Did you check for blown fuses?
Did this kit require you to cut or splice wires?
How did you know the taillights went out while sitting at a light?
Did you examine the taillight bulbs?

After further checking, the right tail light went out. Also both turn signals in the rear went out. No I didn't cut or splice wires. It was a simple conversion kit that I have used for years on many vehicles. I never had a problem before and I always use the same brand. But they have been going out quickly. The first kit on my Malibu lasted 3 months. The second kit lasted 2 hours. Both lights went out at the same time. Same as the first kit. But this time I did the same thing I did the first time and replaced the hid kit with my regular bulbs. The first time they worked. So I just bought a second kit to get my hid back. But last night when this happened I put the regular bulbs in and they lit up. So I put the hood down and went back inside. A couple hours later I went to leave and the lights would not come on. So I checked if the high beams worked. Nothing. So I pulled back on the high beams switch and it made a click sound coming from under the car. Not sure about that but I can't drive my car at night and I have a healthy monthly payment on it. I need to get it fixed ASAP.

A true HID kit includes a module to power the lights. Did you leave this module in place and just installed normal bulbs?

No I removed both ballest and bulb and all wiring to back to stock level.

Check if the headlight relay is being activated when you turn the lights on using a test light or voltmeter.

I checked all 7 related fuses. All good. No cutting. Just plug n play. When I had turned on my turn signal it started hyper blinking. Then the right side did the same thing. I checked all bulbs and the filament is in tact. Only one tail light went out. I think both brake lights went out. Only the top bar lights up. Both rear signals are out. Front passenger signal is out. High/allow beam and drl are out. Tps are not reading. Fog lights work. Interior lights work. Trunk tail light and reverse lights work. The dimmer knob at the auto control switch works. The back lighting on the headlights control knob works. The knob works at every position but only turns on what rear lights are working. Now all this happened in a series of each other. All within a 12 hour period. Like I explained in my first thread I had a first set of hid kit that is the same brand and it lasted 3 months before both ballest blew at the same time. Then I just got my replacement hid kit so I installed it and it only lasted 2 hours and then blowing both ballest at the same time again. The hid bulbs attached to the kits on both sets are still good and working. It's the ballest that are the problem. And now it affected some module the bcm I believe by my research.

No I removed the bulb. Sealed ballest and plug which plugged straight into the factory clip

My car doesn't have a relay for the headlight. All exterior and interior lights are controlled by the body control module.
It seems only the bank in the module that controls the headlights and some of the rear lights is affected. Because the module controls very much more than that and everything else works.

No shorted or damaged wires. No burning smell happened. It just simply quit working.

Than you need a diagnostic scanner like a Tech 2 to determine the cause.

I already checked for codes and there was none.. but after all my research I believe it is the BCM.

You also had the issue after installing HID?
Yeah, it was just plug and play. After installing, my whole right headlight assembly stopped working except the high beams. Ground is good, checked with a fused jumper wire from the battery. Realized the BCM wasn’t giving it power. I just don’t know if the BCM just needs to be reprogrammed or needs replaced. Trying to pay as less as possible

Does it work with the originals?

Does it work with the originals?
Nope, I replugged the factory headlights, disconnected the batteries (hood and trunk) to reset the bcm and the Dtcs and still didn’t work. I would say the only thing I haven’t done is backprobe the power wire from the BCM and the wire going into the headlight and test for continuity. I’ve heard if there’s a faulty wire, the BCM won’t give power but I feel that it’s very unlikely it’s a faulty wire, especially just out of no where with no prior issues.
