2013 Silverado Grade Braking Issue

I see lots of "complaints" about "engine automatically revving" / downshifting. I wish mine DID! Had a 2010 1/2 ton 6 speed that I first experienced the grade braking with. Loved it, after realizing what it was and that it was normal / good thing.

Fast forward to today. New 2013 Silverado...same tranny / engine/ everything except crew cab and color (at least that's what I was let to believe). This truck NEVER downshifts in (or out of) tow mode, going down hill with a 19' fiberglass boat. Hill's / grades that my 2010 always "grade breaked" have yet to make the 2013 do anything but force me to slow down with normal breaking. I see slight downshifts from 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm, but not the normal, instant jump from 2000 to 3500. Has my dealer / service manager stumped, at least talking over the phone. Have appointment to bring it in, but he doesn't seem to think there's an issue. I want my old 2010 performance back! Any insights??

Let the dealer check it and make sure he looks through the Technical Service Bulletins issued by Chevrolet, the dealers have a habit of forgetting about that.

Thanks zora....found a service bulletin (after i posted this) that mentions an issue with the adjustable brake / gas pedal causing an issue with sensor that could / has caused "Grade Breaking" feature to not work.

Armed with your advice and that particular service bulletin, I'm cautiously optimistic that one day soon I'll get the benefit of the grade braking back....if they say they can't do anything and "all is well", well, we'll cross the bridge hopefully never.

Well if you have to cross that bridge, call Chevrolet Customer Care, number is in the back of your owners manual

Hello goose89,

I'm sorry to hear you are having an issue with your shifting in tow mode. Please let me know how everything goes at your dealership. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks Evan, I'll know more tomorrow after appointment at dealer's service center.

Still no word from Service Dept. at dealer....Second in line in the Service Dept. took a ride with me, pulling my boat, and even said there's something wrong...since he hadn't seen or heard of this, he said he'd make some calls and see if he could find anything out....multiple emails and phone messages have been ignored or not replied to. Very frustrated. Will send of one more email and phone call...in no response, I'll make calls / emails to someone farther up the ladder. Mike

Mike:
You have been patient for about two months or more, contact the person in post #5 of this thread, Chevolet Customer Svc, they are the legitimate GM contact on this forum.

Get yourself a good attorney and have them make a phone call for you. That usually lights a fire under someone's rear end!

I had a call within hours after submitting a "Customer Satisfaction" report sent from dealer asking how my last visit went. Was finally given some information related to this, but no resolution as of yet. Was told everything was working as it should....I'm satisfied with answer, but disappointed that I "upgraded" from my 2010 to 2013 Silverado....I was assuming / told I was buying exact same truck (gear ratios, towing features, ect, ect) except color and crew cab....I'd have kept the 2010 if I'd know there was this big of a performance change. Hopefully Chevrolet listens and makes some software changes available to those that appreciated the "old" grade breaking performance.

again contact the user in this thread 'Chevrolet Customer Svc'

Need some more info on this grade braking if any body knows...this so called luxery item almost got me and my family of four killed yesterday..when it kicks in the first time it runs around 2500 but it has kicked in again now 3 times while it was already working causing me to skid the tires on dry pavement and running right around 4500 to 5000. ...well yesterday coming down the hill it did it again and this time the road was semi snow covered and I had just went into a corner causing my rear end to loose traction and sent me sliding sideways into oncoming traffic..luckly the rig coming at me was still out about 200 yards....scary as hell and not happy..have 3 other individuals at my place of employment and there having the same issue....help please
