Service air bag light is now on and air bag system is off line. Not good idea to drive in this condition. Went to dealership and said that the air bag recal ( now been waiting over a year) might fix it, but they could fix it for me if I pay for it and GM might refund my $$ if that was the problem.
Question?
How can they fix my service air bag light with an airbag they do not have to do it under warranty?

I just want someone to connect to the BCM to tell me "which" sensor is not working since there are 7 of them, so I do not just randomly replace parts ($$$).
Been to six different auto shops and no one can help me, I will be glad to pay a fee for the diagnosic.
Any suggestions?

Have you contacted GM about the overdue recall?
The shops you are going to have ASE certified mechanics?
Could it be the shops do not want to be responsible if they tell you a particular part and charge you for the diagnosis and then it turns out to be something else?

Yes, I have contacted GM, but no response yet. The shops I went to all have ASE ceritified mechanics, two of them dealerships. Good thoughts about being responsible too.
I don't really care who helps me out, I just want someone who give a #$$#!$ about being honest to say no or yes....even for a price. The SIR system in the vehicle will tell where the problem is, I would not hold them accountable if it was wrong.

Thanks for the input and I will keep trying and post the end results to help anyone else haveing the same issues.

You contacted GM at the number listed below?
Interim letters informing owners that parts are not yet available were mailed to owners beginning on July 18, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet Customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 49151.

I got a call today from GM stating they got my email about this problem and assured me that they were on top of it all. They even gave me a case # to use when contacting the dealer or anyone else in regards to this issue.
Meanwhile the truck is still parked till I find or pay someone to diagnos the problem, I think I can fix the faulty part when I find out which on it is. I have been a mechanic for many types of vehicles and equipment my whole life and I am 64 years young.

Just don't have the corrrect scanner to talk to the truck and let IT tell me what failed.

Thanks for the links and your suggestions. I'll keep everyone posted.

Howdy! How's the diagnostic so far? A buddy here is almost having the same issue with his Suburban. We are gonna take a look at it right after I finished installing the Moto metal wheels and new tires on current truck project. Any info will be highly appreciated.

Truck has been sitting in the driveway waiting for me to find time between work and wife in hospital. Going to just take it to a reputable mechanic and pay the price to get the information I need to decide how to proceed.

I Will let you know.
Thanks!:)

Update on problem with service air bag light.
Found out that the passenger seat module is not communicating with the system, do not know if the module is bad or the seat sensor is bad. Will have it checked out soon.

thanks for the update and good luck

I have also been told that the module must be grounded well to work. The threaded stud spot welded to the floor is sometimes the problem. I was told to try to remove the nut and clean the stud and module and tighten them up real good. This has fixed several vehicles with simular problems.
I will first check this out before going any further.

Just an update:
Found a company that will "reset" the SDM module that is causing all the trouble. Just have to remove it, mail it to them and they reset it with same vin number. 40.00 plus shipping.
Worth a try instead of a new one from GM at almost 350.00 plus programming plus installation.
Will keep you posted.

how did you go from a bad seat sensor to the SDM being the cause?

I returned for another opinion and discovered the SDM is not in communication with the system, therefore the seat sensor or belt sensor or airbag sensor could all be bad or not bad. Must restore Comm first to find out.
I figured about 30 minutes of my time and 40.00 is worth a shot.

Discovered the SDM module is under the console, so I will have to remove it to get the unit out. The two units under the passenger seat are not involved. They are the "yaw" control and the "park assist" modules.
So much for a quick fix, removing console is a little more invoved, just hope I do not have to remove the seats to access two screws that are on the bottom sides next to the seats. I can remove the cup holder and tray it sits in and see the module but can not get to the mounting screws.

Just an update as I promised

thanks for the update, let us know how it works out for you

Update............truck still sitting and waiting on me. I have been too busy and have health issues with wife for now. I need to get this done before inspection time rolls around again.
Just another FYI

Fixed. It was the connector to the passenger seat on the latch side....it had come apart. Had to remove the seat to get to it. Makes me wish I had just torn it apart sooner, but health and family issues have to come first.
Lesson learned to double check everything before reaching a conclusion.

glad to hear you found the cause of the problem
