My wifes 2009 Equinox is burning oil. When going in for service, there is no oil showing on the dipstick. They replaced valves or valve seats or something after having to pressure them quite a bit. Now it is burning oil just as fast as it was before.
I would personally like to trade it in on a toyota! A new car owner should not have to check the oil.
The worst part is, the dealer tried brushing her off the first time as a woman who doesn't know anything about cars.
Any clues to point the dealer in the right direction would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I have a 4-cyl. 2010 Chevy Equinox, and a similar story. My vehicle was running very rough when I took mine in for a look. The dealer did the same with me (brushing me off), and even tried to make me look stupid for not checking my oil, although I JUST had it changed about a week prior and have always maintained my new vehicle even more often than the recommended mileage in the owners manual. This issue is very maddening, and i just want to say keep fighting if you have to, because this is not right! If I had known that these synthetic oils tended to burn more quickly than the standard oil I def would have reconsidered buying this car.

Equinotsogreat,
I apologize for your frustrations. Has the dealer involved Technical Assistance? Please email me your VIN, current mileage, and involved dealer? I would like to look into this further for you. Happy Holidays!

I have a 2010 Equinox. It has been a serious oil burner. It is now burning one quart per 750 miles. In several inquiries, the dealer tells me that this is normal.

THIS IS NOT NORMAL. I have been driving vehicles of all kinds for 52 years. I have been in the delivery business for 22 years. My total driving experience is well in the millions of miles, and I can tell you this is not normal.

The dealer here clearly does not want to do the right thing under warranty. If someone from Chevy is reading this, I would appreciate a response. To anyone else, I would have to say be careful.

courier3,
Thank you for sharing your experience. That rate is definitely not acceptable. Has the dealer performed an oil consumption test? Can you please either email or private message me with your complete contact information including mailing address, VIN, current mileage, and involved dealer? I would like to look into this further for you. I look forward to your response.

My 2010 Equinox does the same thing and is at the dealer again now. third time, It burned 3 quarts of oil in 1500 miles. I just sent a message to the admin as well about this.

you have to send a PM to the user "Chevrolet Customer Svc", the admin of this site cannt help you.

Wow! Have any of you pulled a spark plug and looked to see if it's covered with oil? If so, it could be that the rings are not being properly installed on the pistons at the assembly line. If not, then I really don't know if it's not running past the valves and out the tail pipe.
