After driving in the snow for the 1st time with my new Malibu, the snow buildup behind the tires froze overnight. The next morning when driving to work, the chunk broke off taking some of the platic body panel with it. As matter of fact this has happened on both sides of the car. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a Chevy defect worthy of recall? I would think that the panels should not break off within the first 10,000 miles......Anyone?

If you have a huge frozen chunk of ice there it is almost impossible for it to not break something, no matter who made the car.

And the reason it is plastic there is so the car will not rust put there any more. However, being plastic you cannot let the snow build up like that. When you get where you are going, while the snow buildup is still granules, you have to give it a kick so it falls off before it freezes.

Also consider getting mud flaps installed.

But take it to the dealer and see if they can warranty it anyway. If can't hurt to ask.
