I recently dropped $5,000 into a rebuild of the 4L80E transmission in my 2007 Suburban 2500 4WD, after my Topdon diagnostic VCI dongle showed a code PO894, transmission component slipping. The rebuild was done by a local transmission shop that's been in business here for near 40 years run by the same owner who did a rebuild of transmission of my previous 89 suburban 2500 about 20+ years ago that worked out fine.
I've driven the Sub 5 or 6 times in town since the rebuild and twice I felt what seemed like something slipped a little when it did the gear shift at about 2,500 RPMs as I reached cruising speed of 50-55 MPH. Going on up to 70 everything seemed fine, though I didn't stay at 70ish more than a couple of miles since the speed limit is 45 on that stretch of road.

The shifting of all gears is a lot smoother than it was prior to the rebuild, but those two times I felt something slipping up at the last gear shift worries me.

I have 11 months left on the 1 year warranty on the rebuild. I'll be taking it to the shop next week per their instructions to let them check fluid basically I guess.

What should I ask for and expect when I tell the owner of the shop about the slippage I felt when I take it in?

What happens inside a transmission to cause that slipping feeling? It doesn't mean the transmission pump rotor has shattered again does it?
I really appreciate any knowledge and advise you folks might share with me. That $5,000 repair stung the heck out of this retiree's budget, so I sure don't want to have to repeat it in a year or two.

It's an electronic transmission so I would expect him to run diagnostics on it assuming he has the equipment.

You know, I didn't even think of that, good point. I'll ask him to do that and I'll plug into the computer it it to see if my Topdon picks up any problems in the transmission too. I can do that right now in fact..
Thank you.
