Yesterday the transmission on my truck wen't out. I was at a red light, then once it turned green slightly pressed on the gas, but the truck gave a loud crank and felt like she slipped. The truck was like automatically went into Neutral. Once I stopped the truck, I put it park gear. Tried putting into Drive, but won't go foward. The truck only goes Reverse and foward in 1 & 2 gear. It's a 2007 with 34K miles on it. Also, has size 24" rims. Any advise on what might be wrong with it?????

Chevy Avalanche 2006 fixed by installing new selector switch on dash. If anyone has had an issue with their truck dropping out of gear while in two wheel drive it may not be the transmission or the relay switch.

The problem: What will happen is that you will be driving at any speed and the truck will just loose power and the RPMs will go to zero. If you pull to the side of the road (stop) and place the truck in auto four wheel drive you will be able to continue on without doing harm to the truck. ( I drove mine for over a month in auto four but would not advise doing that) You may also be able to just start back on the road without doing anything leaving it in two wheel drive. My case was a progression until it would occur frequently. It took a two weeks for it to be a major issue.

The fix: I was concerned it was a transmission issue but found that by simply replacing the selector switch the problem is solved for $107.00 with a part from Chevy Dealer. I did not attempt to get part over internet so you are on your own if you choose that route. The process is very easy. Utube video from keffandmac on how to take dash off is awesome. He does it on a Silverado but it is basically the same thing. He shows taking off the bottom panel but I do not think you have to. The trick is to remove the dash by placing the truck gear shifter in low 3 on the steering colum. This allows room for the plastic trim to be removed. See the video if you have questions. The new switch just slides into the slot. Be careful not to break the plastic tabs that hold the switch but again not difficult. The tabs that hold the dash are metal and that is a plus. Thanks to everyone on the forum and I hope this helps someone because I have gotten so much from this place.....
