Can I replace an abs module with a used one and reflash the used one to correct the vin and programming? I’m not doing the programming myself but need to know if that’s possible with the right equipment. Long story short the can bus resistor is in the bad abs module so you can’t download what’s on it found the same year and model but it was running a different part# ecm so obvious program differences, the abs module is a part# match and as far as I know has a eeprom so I thought with the right tool and factory authentication code you could reprogram it. So any gm drivability electrical techs out there that can let me know the outcome?

Why do you think the ABS module is concerned with the VIN?
Did you look at refurbished units to see if they mention anything?

This vehicle I assumed had all modules with vin in base program. when there built the programming is done near final assembly to set the communication between modules on the gmlan or can buss parallel circuit. My thought was that’s the handshake between them. This car has a tcm,abs and electric power steering and their function depends on each other in the overall network. So from my previous experience with gm products I programmed lots of vehicles with eeproms I’ve never programmed cobalts, I remember early 2000’s you could reinstate the base program by vin with factory software because of the eeprom . If this was an earlier car I would know just hoping one that is familiar with this might know

Are you stating you previously had to program an ABS module to be VIN specific?
BCM and ECM yes but ABS?

Had to enter vin on tech 2 for calibration and after you could edit when it was available

Long and short is can I put a matching used module on it without flashing, just bolt and go if it doesn’t set a light everything should work because one program works on select models?
