2005 Chevy Malibu died while running, now won't start?

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu with almost 129,000 miles on it. I was on the freeway when I could no longer accelerate and it my speedometer started falling. It was almost like I was running out of gas but the gas tank is over half full. When I tried to start the car up, it turned over but the engine doesn't seem to fire. No check engine lights or any warnings came on as it was happening. Now when the car doesn't start, the battery light comes on. However the battery was replaced 2 years ago, and when I tried to jump start it, it wouldn't start either. Looking for possibilities of what could be wrong?
