Hey.
First of all, this is a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban LT 2500, 4WD, with the 8,1 vortec.
Have had a random misfire fault on my burb for a while, coming and going, and as I have been progressing on elimination method (without any luck so far), and dear google is full of answers both good and bad 😜, I yesterday changed all coils on the motor. Result horrible 😨.
I now get fault code on all coils, P0351,P0352, 353,354,355,356,357 and P0358. Yeeeey, way to go, NOT.
The coils installed are Delphi 10298, according application chart they should fit.
Anyone with any bright idea? Do I need to "factory" code those into the car, reset something, or just change back to the old ones?
Does anyone know if there are any high output performance coils for the 8,1 engine? Mailed MSD and they didn't have any they said.
H e l p 😣

to start with I would try putting the original coils back in and making sure something isnt wrong with their installation such as a bad ground.
did you have code P0300 to start with or something else?
have you tried summit racing and jegs for aftermarket parts but I dont think you will gain anything from just coils.

Yeah. My thought exactly, back to the old ones I guess. The strange part is that the car acts just fine. When I start up it shows like a "red" fault (engine light steady) , but after driving a short while it changes to pending (engine light blinking). Yeah, P0301 and 300 is frequently, those are the ones I am trying to kill. Those Delphi coils I put in now is from aftermarket like JEGS and Summit, but my truck did not like them hehe. The bad ground issue is what pops up on almighty google, but cannot see why, as the old ones did not give this error though. Could it be my ECM is bad?

Hey Zora, and thanks. I have been through those as far as I can. When it started off with the misfire, it was cyl 7. I then replaced all spar plugs and wires, fault still there. Then replaced injector, still error, then coil on 7,the fault then swapped to 6, then to random. As it appeared for me to be the coil at the end that mattered, i now swapped all coils hoping to get a bit further in eliminating the issue, but did now get error on all coils instead hehe. My luck exactly. Though, the engine sounds quite good now and appears not to be misfiring, well, not any misfire error code discovered so far.

Correction. The random misfire is still there. So, when i get some time next week, i will check all coil wires, just to see if one is broken. Elimination method continues.

Has anyone by any chance replaced fuel injectors and coils on this 8,1 engine? And may provide a direct link to those parts. As it looks now, the Delphi 10298 coils does not compute despite it was stated compatible on the site.

according to the AC Delco website a 2003 Suburban LT2500 with an 8.1 uses coil number D581 which appears to be the same as Delphi GN10298. Are the Delphi coils new?

Yeah, I also checked and found the same. So you might say I was a bit surprised when those 8 fault codes popped up ☺ The Delphi coils are new yes. If I don't find anything wrong related to the coils, I will just order AC coils, together with new injectors. Just have to find the part number on the injectors first, I know I have one....... someplace hehe.

Quick update.
Time on my hands today so I will check all wires for the coils, just to verify that they are all ok :D
