2003 Inst gauges not working

Hello everyone, just bought a 03 Suburban Z71. Battery and oil gauges do not work, and this morning the speedo was not working and when it did it was way off. Speedo worked on the way home. I have read the stepper motors go bad on these and I found a guy on the web that supposedly can fix them permanently. So, is there some things I can check to make sure its not just a fuse or something ? I do not have a chiltons book yet or any wire diagrams yet either. Thank you. I did not see any fuses directly related the batt and oil gauge. I have been reading up on doing the stepper motors and think I might tackle that myself.
 
Check the plugs on the instrument cluster first and make sure they're good and tight. Maybe you'll luck out.
