2003 chevy silverado idle problems?

I was wondering what might the average rpm's be when a 5.3 vortec idles. right now it hits about 600 rps when idiling. Is that normal? and if not what causes it so i can repair the problem

recently replaced fuel filter, spark plugs and weirs, and there is a new battery along with a rebuilt alternator
