Hi - new here. Recently purchased a 2002 Tahoe LT. I was told by the previous owner to ONLY use regular unleaded gas. When I look up the VIN number it has a "Z" in it - which seems to indicate flex fuel usage is an option. Is this correct? I also am not certain if this is a 5.3L engine or not. The whole reason I am asking is because the fuel pump has gone out (we bought it Thanksgiving!) and needs to be replaced. I have been quoted roughly 500-600 (for the parts only!) for the fuel pump, filter and anything else that goes with it. Does that seem high? Is this a flex fuel Tahoe? Is regular gas hurting it? Would you recommend purchasing a new fuel pump (AC DELCO) from AutoPartsWarehouse.com? I am not sure what all needs to be purchased to give my mechanic what he needs. OF course, ANY help is soooo appreciated. I miss my Tahoe!! Sorry for so many questions. Thank you!!

Being new to the site as well, good luck getting any response. I have posted several times with excess of 600 reads total, without one reply. I'm also a member of a large Motorhome forum which is totally opposite. People on there are so eager to share in their experiences and remedies which makes you really chime in whenever you can help someone else who shares your predicaments. I hope this is a WAKE-UP CALL, everyone on here lets try and help each other, thats what a FORUM is all about, not just reading.

OK..........as far as your problem, I believe I would get a second opinion before spending that kind of $$$$$$ just for the parts. I know the Module is pricey, but that should fall in the category of parts and labor included. Check with you local NAPA Dealer, you may be suprised. Good luck to you.

As far as the flex fuel question. I didn't think flex fuel was an option in 02.
As far as the displacement of your engine. It should say in the engine compartment on a sticker, usualy the serpentine belt diagram will say if it is a 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, or the 6.5. But in 2002 I am sure it would more than likely be the 5.7 since the 5.3 didn't come in them until 2004.
