I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu that has an engine light I need to reset. How do I do this at home? I need to get the car smogged, and it will fail if that light is shining brightly.
You can try disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes but that doesn't always work and unless you fixed the problem the light will come back on after awhile. A scan tool is the only way to properly diagnose and clear the codes.
Flush your cooling system out(water and Anti freeze).Also change Thermostat.Even though your heat gage is where it should be the water in your cooling system is probably rusty looking.I owned a 2001 malibu for five years and that is why I know.Light will stay off.
