Long story very short, I have a 2000 5.3L v8 chevy Silverado that the fuel gauge doesn't work at all, i'm receiving a p0440 evap system code, and the truck will periodically stall while driving. It starts again immediately and none of the lights cut out when it stalls, the engine simply stops. I replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump a few months ago, because the fuel gauge wasn't working. After I replaced it, it worked great and has slowly fallen into a worse state. Before I start tearing it apart again, any suggestions where to start?

The stalling just recently started, which it has been months since replacing the fuel pump. I never even considered it might be something other than the fuel system, so ill give that a try.

Well I cleaned the Throttle Body and the IAC, they were quite dirty and gunked up. It ran decently for about 10 miles, it did stall once at first but after that it was fine, but then on the way home it stalled and now it wont start. At first it would run for about 1-2 sec before dying but after having it towed I tried to start it about 12 hrs later and now it just cranks. I'm to the point I might just replace the fuel pump and hope that's what it is.
I checked the connections, they were all snug, and the clips were tight, i still pushed them down as well as i could for good measure. Ive currently begun unistalling the fuel pump since it is under warranty, miles well at the very least fix my fuel gauge issue. Got the new fuel pump in, it was still under warranty ($250 part), Truck started right away, my p0440 code reset on its own within a minute of driving, my fuel gauge sensor is operational. Looking at the old pump there were several things wrong. 1) The wiring for chevys new 4 pin connector seemed a bit loose when I pulled it out, and one of the crimp connectors was completely black, as if it had overheated or shorted out. 2) The sensor on top of the fuel tank (assuming a pressure sensor) broke off and was simply hanging on by the wire harness, which would explain the small leak detected. Thank you for those who replied, hope this thread can help others, truck is 220k+ miles and running like a champ, for free!

Was that an AC/Delco pump or aftermarket like from Autozone? I'm just curious, being a former Autozone employee (16 years ago). I saw a lot of fuel pump failures from them and don't recommend buying them or electrical parts there.
