2000 Chevy Silverado Tow/Haul mode not working.?

Just bought a 2000 Chevy Silverado (5300 V8). When I push the tow button on the gearshift, nothing happens. What/where should I look to see why it isn't working? Would it be worth the effort to take it to a dealership to have them look at it?

Edit: I will be doing some heavy towing so it would be nice if I could get it working. When I press the button (even in overdrive) nothing happens; no light indicator, nothing shifts differently, etc.

only thing that your tow/haul does is change shift points and drops out over drive so unless you are cruising in overdrive and hit your toe/haul you won't feel a thing but you should have a indicator on the dash cluster that says tow/haul

it is probably just electric(sensor) if the shift points are smooth and on time i wouldnt worry about it unless your going to be doing some heavy towing.
