i have a 2000 silverado 5.3... its having problems with starting whether its cold or hot... it will just crank and crank but wont start when its cold but when i get done cranking it the first time, it fires right up and runs fine. same story with when its hot... i can drive it till it reaches operating temperature, let it set for fifteen minutes, and come back out to start it and its the same story... ive recently just let it do its cycle before starting (six dings from dash) and when it goes quiet it fires right up... i replaced the Fuel pressure regulator cause it was bad and was bleeding down, but now i have no idea what is wrong with it... PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks...
the oil was replaced along with the spark plugs about 1000 miles ago so that cant be the problem... oh and the starter motor is still running strong... doesnt drag or anything... it has to be something along the lines of fuel delivery, and the check ball sounds like the best bet

It is most likely either your fuel pump or one of your injectors.Your fuel pump has a check ball in it to hold pressure on the fuel rail.If the check ball quits sealing it lets the pressure bleed off the fuel rail.Same thing if you have an injector stuck open.By turning the key on but waiting to crank it over your letting the fuel rail pressurize again. We just did a 2004 that had the exact same trouble. The pump isn't cheap(over 300 bucks) so you might ask a dealer if there's a way to check to see if it's an injector causing it before you replace the pump. There is a test port on the fuel rail near the throttle body.A mechanic can hook a pressure gauge up and see if that's what's actually happening.
