I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu with a 3.1 liter V-6. The bearing in the A/C clutch has recently started growling (noise goes away when A/C compressor engages). I don't have the funds right now to replace the A/C Clutch assembly, so I was wondering if anyone has ever tried replacing the serpentine belt with a shorter belt that by-passes the A/C compressor? If so, could you give me the belt brand and part number?
I know I can get a rough estimate with a tape measure, but it's winter here, and I don't have a garage to work in. Can anyone help?? Thanks.

You need to fix the right way, as you NEED the compressor for defrost mode. The A/C is actually on when defrosting, which helps get rid of the moisture. Without the compressor working, your defroster will not work well at all.
