1999 Z 24 2.4 twin cam oil in spark plugs and in the plug wells

Hi all, I just spent my last dime in this car and it was running great. Last week it started choking and hesitating and I found oil in the spark plugs and in the wells...I don't have a lot of money to spend and a friend is offering to help but he doesn't usually work on American cars. Can someone tell me what could cause this. The car isn't dying, not over heating just bad fuel pressure, hesitating and backfiring.

the valve cover gaskets have to be replaced for the oil issue. Do you have a check engine light on?
