Hey guys so here is my problem:

Right now my Suburban only starts with starter fluid. However, if it is still warm or hasn't sat too long after running, it will typically start again without it. In order for it to start though, it is best to turn the ignition over in short bursts. I've noticed lately that it won't actually start while turning over... but as soon as I let off the key it seems to kick in and catch... even if not every time. It also has a code when connected to a scanner that says it has a lean fuel mixture. I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction of things to check.

Thanks!

1. when is the last time you changed the fuel filter?
2. Can you do a fuel pressure test assuming you have a clean fuel filter?
3. Is your engine temperature on the gauge normal once fully warmed up?
4. what is the actual code?

Zora thanks for the response. I guess, real quick, I should mention some other things I forgot to include. This vehicle was recently purchased and had this problem upon buying. The previous owner has recently put a new fuel pump in it. Also, once it gets running it runs great. No problems at all.

1. Fuel filter- not sure as I've owned it for only a couple of weeks
2. I have never done a fuel pressure test but I'm assuming I could do one as long as the tools are easily acquirable.
3. It is funny you mention the engine temperature because I actually received three codes:

P0125- Insufficient Coolant Temp for Closed Loop Fuel Control
P0171- System Too Lean (Bank 1)

P1870- Trans Component Slipping (probably not relevant to this problem)

I will have to pay attention to the temperature next time I am driving around. I haven't noticed any problems with it though.
