I have a 1997 Cavalier that needs some work done on it.My car is a 5 speed and the slave cylinder is leaking and needs replaced.I know that the cylinder is located inside the transmission.I am looking for a back yard mechanic that knows what they are doing.I can't afford much, but I am hoping that there is someone who can help me get my car fixed.I live in Ohio.
I know it's the slave cylinder because I took it to Cottmans Transmissions and they told me that's what is wrong with it.They want almost 700.00 to fix it.I have only had the car for 5 months and when I bought it the clutch was brand new.

How do you know the slave cylinder is leaking vs. a slipping clutch or a seal leak?

It's FWD so replacing the throwout bearing (i.e. slave cylinder) means taking the transmission off at which point you might as well just throw in a new clutch. Since you can't afford much I suggest you just drive around on it because no one is going to do it for under $300 dollars because it's a p.i.t.a. to get to.

You should try your local craigslist instead of worldwide Yahoo answers. People who don't live in Ohio cant help you with this one...
