I have a 1994 Chevy Silverado 1500 Extended Cab (2WD) with a 4.3 Vortec TBI.

Mileage: 223,564
Transmission: Automatic 4L60E

It runs fine but the issue is the transmission fluid is black and I need to change it and the filter the only problem is there is a support beam that blocks access to the transmission fluid pan. Is it safe to remove this beam to access the pan.

Also which transmission fluid is recommended for it considering its high mileage.

What are other recommendations to get as much life out of it as possible the current list of things done are listed below.

Oil/Filter (With Prolong engine treatment which is doing excellent)
Spark plugs/Wires
Air filter
Cap and rotor

I bought the truck for $800 because it has a solid body and it obviously runs good. It does not have any slippage and it gets up and goes with no issue.

I understand the 4.3 TBI are very good but I want the most out of this truck as possible. Its hauling days are over it will just be pretty much an A to B vehicle and if needed to move some stuff around.

Also if it should fail later down the road will a 350 fit this truck and will that 350 bolt to a 4L60E transmission?

i think this link answers your question, just use the correct tools.

With that mileage and not knowing the maintenance history, change the rear fluid also. Check the brake fluid, if very dark and dirty, replace it.
Check the condition of the engine coolant, replace and flush if necessary.
Check any drive belts.
Would think a 350 from the same generation will fit.
